Oceanographic observations

Updated 2012-08-28

Monitoring and forecast of the sea and ocean state, support of safety of navigation and marine activities. Main gaps: Additional control is needed for historical data, especially with regard to hydrochemical parameters.

Methods & Procedures

Procedures and methodology used for, e.g., sampling and sample storage, sample pretreatment, extraction and analysis, including which laboratories are involved, references to methods employed, etc.

Atmosphere: • air temperature, • air humidity, • type and amount of clouds, • atmosphere pressure, • wind structure, • visual range, • atmosphere phenomena. Sea surface: • wave height and direction, • characteristics of ice cover Observations – every 6 or 12 hours Deep-sea observations: • water temperature, • sea water salinity, • hydrochemical parameters (oxygen content, alcalinity, concentration of biogenic elements). • current direction and speed.
