To clarify whether effects of metals (Cd, Hg) affects biochemical markers (MT) in seal kidneys
This is not a National Implementation Plan (NIP) project
Time frame
- Status
- Ongoing
- Project time span
- 2000 - 2002
- Data collection
- 2000 - 2002
- Data processing
- 2000 - 2002
- Data reporting
- 2001 - 2002
Data availability
- Are data archived or planned to be archived at an AMAP Thematic Data Centre?
- yes-partly
- Data centres
- Marine TDC
- Samples/specimens archived in specimen banks?
- Yes
- Specimen banking information
Processed samples stored at NIVA
Methods & Procedures
- Procedures and methodology used for, e.g., sampling and sample storage, sample pretreatment, extraction and analysis, including which laboratories are involved, references to methods employed, etc.
(1) tissue sampled from seals and stored/transported in liguid nitrogen
(2) sample homogenised in buffer and cytosolic fractions separated
(3) metallothionein analysed in cytosolic fraction by differential pulse polarography and HPLC
(4) protein determined in cytosolic fraction by spectrophotometric method
- QA/QC Information (what QA/QC procedures are implemented, laboratories involvment in QA/QC activities, model verification/validation routines, etc.)
NIVA is a partner in the BEQUALM programme (EU-funded) and lead country for metallothionein analyses. Mammalian metallothionein is not included in the programme at present, so internal QA procedures will be used. The protocol includes the use of reference materials.
Additional Information
- Is this a bi- AND multi-lateral project (i.e. a project involving cooperation between different countries)?
- Yes
- Other institutes involved in the project
DMU (DK), HI (NO)
